Equipment

  • Medium mixing bowl
  • Whisk
  • Measuring cups and spoons
  • Glass jar with lid For storage
  • Rubber spatula

Ingredients

  • 1 cup mayonnaise 240ml
  • 1/2 cup buttermilk 120ml
  • 1/2 cup sour cream 120g
  • 2 teaspoons dried parsley 4g
  • 1 teaspoon dried dill weed 2g
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder 3g
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder 3g
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt 3g
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper 1g
  • 1/4 teaspoon paprika 0.5g
  • 1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice 15ml

Instructions

  • Add mayonnaise, buttermilk, and sour cream to a mixing bowl and whisk until completely smooth with no lumps.
  • Add all dried seasonings (parsley, dill, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, pepper, and paprika) and whisk vigorously for 30 seconds.
  • Add fresh lemon juice and whisk for another 20-30 seconds until well combined.
  • Transfer to a glass jar, seal tightly, and refrigerate for at least 1 hour before serving to allow flavors to develop.

Notes

  • Use fresh buttermilk and check the expiration date for best flavor
  • The 1-hour refrigeration time is essential for the dried herbs to rehydrate and flavors to meld
  • For thinner dressing, add extra buttermilk 1 tablespoon at a time; for thicker dip consistency, use less buttermilk
  • Premium mayonnaise brands like Duke's make a noticeable difference in flavor
  • Use fresh lemon juice only - bottled lemon juice tastes artificial
  • Store in an airtight glass container in the refrigerator for up to 2 weeks
  • Shake or stir before each use as ingredients may separate slightly
  • For a lighter version, substitute half the mayonnaise with Greek yogurt
  • Add hot sauce and cayenne for spicy ranch, or crumbled bacon for bacon ranch
  • Let dressing sit at room temperature for 10 minutes before serving for easier pouring
