Instructions

  • Pour almond milk and chia seeds into the blender jar, letting them sit for about 1 minute.
  • Add the frozen banana slices and frozen mixed berries to the jar on top of the liquid.
  • Add honey and vanilla extract, then blend on low for 10 seconds before increasing to high for 45-60 seconds until smooth. Scrape down sides as needed.
  • Check the consistency and add more almond milk to thin, or a few ice cubes or extra frozen berries to thicken. Adjust sweetness to taste.
  • Pour into glasses or mason jars and serve immediately with a straw or spoon.

Notes

  • Freeze the banana ahead of time: slice and freeze at least 2 hours before blending for a thicker, colder smoothie.
  • Let the chia seeds sit in the almond milk briefly: even 60 seconds prevents clumping at the blade.
  • Layer liquid first, then dense ingredients to help the blender pull everything down smoothly.
  • Use riper berries for natural sweetness; slightly overripe frozen berries need less added honey.
  • Blend in short bursts if your blender is underpowered; pulsing before continuous blending helps break up large chunks.
  • Adjust liquid gradually: add almond milk one tablespoon at a time when thinning, as it's easier to loosen than thicken.
  • Taste before adding extra sweetener; frozen fruit can taste less sweet straight out of the freezer than once blended.
  • Keep pre-portioned smoothie packs in the freezer with banana and berries to make this a 60-second recipe on busy mornings.
  • Rinse the blender jar immediately after pouring; chia seeds harden as they dry and are easier to clean while wet.
  • Store leftovers in an airtight jar for up to 24 hours; shake or stir before drinking as chia seeds will continue to thicken the texture.
