This acai smoothie recipe turns a frozen packet of Brazilian superfruit into a thick, spoonable, berry-purple blend in about ten minutes. It leans on frozen acai puree, ripe banana, mixed berries, and a splash of almond milk to get that ice-cream-thick texture smoothie shops charge eight dollars for.
Blender tamper - Helps push fruit toward blades without extra liquid (optional)
Liquid measuring cup - For milk and yogurt
Rubber spatula - For scraping thick smoothie out of the blender
Bowls or glasses - For serving as a smoothie bowl or drink
Ingredients
2packetsfrozen unsweetened acai puree - 200g total, thawed for 5 minutes at room temperature
1mediumfrozen banana - sliced into chunks before freezing
1cupfrozen mixed berries - 150g, strawberries, blueberries, and raspberries work well
0.5cupalmond milk - 120ml, or any milk you prefer
0.25cupplain Greek yogurt - 60g, for extra creaminess and protein
1tablespoonhoney - 15ml, or maple syrup (optional, to taste)
0.5teaspoonacai powder - optional, for deeper acai flavor if puree is mild
For Topping (Smoothie Bowl Version)
Granola - for crunch
sliced fresh banana
fresh berries
unsweetened coconut flakes
chia seeds - for texture and extra fiber
honey or nut butter - for drizzling
Instructions
Let frozen acai packets sit at room temperature for 5 minutes, or run briefly under warm water. Soften just enough to break apart, then squeeze chunks directly into the blender jar.
Add frozen banana chunks and frozen mixed berries on top of the acai. Keeping everything frozen is key for the thick texture.
Pour in almond milk (start with less for thicker texture), add Greek yogurt, and add honey or maple syrup and acai powder if using.
Start blender on low to break frozen chunks, then increase to high speed. Use tamper if available to push fruit down. Blend for 45-60 seconds until thick, glossy, and fully smooth.
Check consistency with a spoon. If it holds its shape, it's ready for a bowl. Add almond milk 1 tablespoon at a time for a drinkable consistency, or add more frozen fruit if too thin.
Pour into glasses for drinking or divide into shallow bowls for topping. Add granola, sliced banana, fresh berries, coconut, and chia seeds immediately and serve right away.
Notes
Use fully frozen fruit for the thickest consistency; fresh fruit will thin out the smoothie.
Don't over-thaw acai packets – 5 minutes at room temperature is enough. Fully thawed acai loses body.
Start with less liquid than you think you need – it's easier to add more than to fix a thin smoothie.
Use ripe, spotty bananas before freezing for maximum sweetness and smooth blending.
Taste before adding sweetener – ripe frozen berries often provide enough natural sweetness.
Have toppings prepped and ready before pouring, as the base softens quickly once blended.
For meal prep, freeze pre-portioned bags of acai, banana, and berries for a dump-and-blend morning.
Add a handful of spinach for extra nutrients without changing the flavor.
Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 24 hours; stir or re-blend before serving.
Do not freeze the finished blended smoothie, as it changes texture significantly upon thawing.
